CEREC and inLab Milling Units – Choosing the Right Mill for Your Practice or Lab

A mill is the most expensive thing in the room, and most owners never open its settings. The wrong unit stays a wet mill for life, a water jet that misses the bur quietly wears it out, a softened filter lets ceramic through to the jets, and a lab machine wants its spindle kit run every day.

By the end of this course you should be able to say which Dentsply Sirona mill suits your practice or lab and why, tell a two-motor unit from a four-motor one on sight, know what dry zirconia milling takes on each, and find your way around a Primemill’s screens without the manual.

Anton Martin recorded it for iDD. Years as the CEREC specialist for Dentsply Sirona New Zealand stand behind it, and the course is filmed on real units in three practices and a working Auckland lab, including one five years into service.

He recorded this in June 2022. All the information and processes are still relevant; just the model line-up, the software version and the features he describes as coming are from 2022.

Eight lessons and 53 minutes, in one chapter. Expect a hardware course, not a design or workflow course.

Lesson 02 is the buying comparison: the line from 1987 to the Primemill, then every current unit’s motors, axes, block size and dry-milling readiness. Lessons 03 to 06 open the chairside units up on camera, with the longest a screen-by-screen walk through the Primemill’s interface, and the last two visit the lab’s inLab MC XL and 5-axis MC X5.
